What’s Networking?

Making the Most of Enquiries - Mobile DJ OnlineNetworking and a general understanding of basic communication is paramount when working in any service industry. Adding these skills to a business model is a must and will naturally propagate client and business partner confidence.

Creating easy communication links between like minded organisation who wish to share and trade skills is a solid foundation for business. These links can be formed in a number of ways, either socially, within forums or association memberships from a DJs perspective. Adding venues within that structure is another subject and something that needs to be dealt with separately.

What’s a social group?

It’s a group of individuals that choose to interact outside the official constraints of an organisation that get together on an informal basis to exchange ideas over a pint or meal.

This will take a little commitment, local initiative and research to establish local business partners but from experience it always pays dividends. These opportunities allow you to meet local DJs that have either been phone, email or internet contacts and will give you a unique opportunity to evaluate them first hand.

Forum groups

Forums are increasingly becoming a stronger force within DJ communities and using basic forum search facilities will allow you to access a huge knowledge base. If you are a new DJ then make use of these search facilities as the subject will most likely already be there.

There are obviously pros and cons for using forums as your primary networking tool and if you are looking to act as an agent to recruit other DJs, or looking for work, a little homework will pay dividends.

Association memberships

There are only a small handful of structured DJ associations available to the working DJ and they all offer differing levels of benefit with NADJ being the only national option. A little internet research should allow you to evaluate who offers the best benefits and what geographically suits you and your needs.

Unfortunately only a few of the associations offer local networking opportunities so bear this in mind when making a decision and don’t be frightened to ask questions.

Summary

Networking and communication is a must for any business that wants to succeed in an industry which predominately has a target market covering the weekend period.

We have all been in situations where you have multiple enquiries for the same date and if you take the time and trouble to evaluate a fellow DJ personally it opens up the opportunity for new revenue streams. Add this to services others may be able to offer that they specialise in and there is a commission potential increasing your income.

Networking – Don’t think about it – Do it
